Turquoise
Turquoise is an opaque, blue-to-green mineral that is a hydrated phosphate of copper and aluminium. It’s a stone that’s rare and valuable in finer grades and has been prized as a gemstone and ornamental stone for thousands of years owing to its unique colour. The captivating sea-green stone of the ancients, represents wisdom, tranquillity, protection, good fortune and is amongst the world’s oldest known gemstones. It was buried in ancient Egyptian tombs dating as far back as 4000 BC. The best turquoise usually has a robin’s egg blue and is found in Iran in the Nishapur region formerly known as Persia. Turquoise is the birthstone of December. It’s one of the first-ever semi-precious gemstones to be mined and has long been prized for its intense colour. Turquoise is a widely available stone, however, it’s rarely found in its pure, natural form.
